This session will highlight services available to help meet long-term care and social needs through recent benefit flexibilities available in Medicare Advantage (MA). The session will describe these new authorities, what benefits are available in MA plans, details on what these benefits look like, how SHIPs are educating Medicare beneficiaries about these benefits, and highlight benefit trends, growth, and opportunities for CBOs to partner with MA plans.

Christina Wu

Research & Policy Director

Long-Term Quality Alliance (LTQA)

Christina Wu is Research and Policy Director of Long-Term Quality Alliance (LTQA), where she develops and implements LTQA’s research agenda to advance long-term care policy. Ms. Wu brings multiple years of experience in research, government, and health care consulting. As a consultant at the Lewin Group, Ms. Wu supported clients including the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) and the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to implement multi-year federal demonstrations testing new models in end-of-life care and supportive housing for older adults. She also worked with several state Medicaid agencies on rebalancing their Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) systems.Most recently, Ms. Wu worked to improve care coordination for individuals with complex health and social needs in the Massachusetts Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) program, both at a health plan and at the state. She also completed a Fulbright fellowship researching dementia care in China. Ms. Wu has a Master of Public Health in Health Policy from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. 

Tyler Cromer

Tyler Overstreet Cromer joins ATI after more than a decade of experience in federal health policy and budget at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). She advises clients on innovative financing and delivery models.Most recently, Tyler served as a senior executive at OMB providing oversight and expertise for budget development and execution across the Department of Health and Human Services. She is particularly interested in payment policy and healthcare delivery system reform and in providing insights to clients building on her years of experience shaping federal policy on these topics. Tyler was in on the ground floor of many of the reforms to traditional Medicare, having led efforts at OMB related to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) since its inception until her arrival at ATI. Tyler also worked on the initial design and regulations implementing the Medicare Shared Savings Program.Tyler has a Masters of Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University.

Brandy Bauer (Moderator)

Director, Center for Benefits Access

National Council on Aging

Brandy Bauer is Director of the Center for Benefits Access at the National Council on Aging, where she works with community organizations and state agencies across the country to promote benefits for older adults, identify strategies to improve the financial security of vulnerable seniors, and educate consumers about scams targeting older adults. She has worked in the field of aging for 11 years. Prior to that, she spent a decade in the international health and human service sectors, working on improving access to services for vulnerable and marginalized populations, including refugee and war trauma survivors in Europe, and as a humanitarian aid worker in Afghanistan.
