MOB-V One Year Later.....Outcomes and Lessons Learned
In this 45-minute panel presentation, we will hear from MaineHealth’s Kirsten Dorsey, OTR/L and Program Manager for A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls Lay Leader Model on the outcomes from the National Falls Database for the A Matter of Balance Virtual Translation (MOB-V). The outcomes explored will be Falls Efficacy, Falls Management, and Activity Levels for participants of the Virtual Translation. We will also hear from four partner organizations who have been implementing the MOB-V since early 2021. Stanford University Trauma Center in California, Partners in Care Foundation in California, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and Centralina Area Agency on Aging in North Carolina will share valuable information ranging from how they got started offering virtual programming to lessons learned in recruitment, technology support, and marketing. |

Ellen Corman has her Bachelor?s Degree in Occupational Therapy and a Master?s Degree in Rehabilitation Administration. She is the Manager of Injury Prevention and Community Engagement in the Trauma Service at Stanford Health Care/Stanford Medicine in Palo Alto, California. Ellen is a master trainer and lead trainer for a Matter of Balance, and has also received training in Stepping On, Otago, and SAIL. She co-chairs the Fall Prevention Task Force of Santa Clara County and is the representative for California for NCOA?s Falls Free Coalition.

Katie Kutcher has a Masters in Gerontology and has been working in the aging services field for more than 15 years. She has been with the Centralina Area Agency on Aging since 2010 and serves as an Aging Programs Coordinator. Katie works with home and community-based services and supports including health and wellness programs, senior centers, nutrition programs and transportation services. Katie is a Lead Trainer for A Matter of Balance, and a Master Trainer for Building Better Caregivers and for the Chronic Disease Self-Management, Diabetes Self-Management, and Chronic Pain Self-Management Programs. Katie provides community education about Aging & Disability Awareness and Cultural Competency and is a part-time instructor for the UNC Charlotte Gerontology Program.

Kirsten is the Program Manager for MaineHealth’s A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls. She joined MaineHealth in May 2020 – at the beginning of the pandemic. Her first project was creating the virtual translation of the MOB program which we will teach you during this training.Kirsten is an Occupational Therapist who has extensive experience working with older adults in a variety of residential & supported living settings. Many of her patients needed therapy as a result of having a fall.She is very grateful to be working to prevent falls for older adults after seeing so many lives interrupted with pain, suffering and loss of independence that a serious fall can cause.Kirsten lives in Maine with her husband, 3 daughters, 2 cats and an old dog. |

Cassandra Manfre is the Project Manager for the Community Wellness at Partners in Care Foundation. As a Project Manager at Partners in Care Foundation, she is responsible for the dissemination and growth of evidence-based health programs implemented in various counties across California. She provides key leadership for the agency’s Administration for Community Living Fall Prevention grant, including monitoring the project’s on-going progress including collecting and analyzing participant data, training, monitoring fidelity of the programs to the original interventions, and report out on program data for quality assurance measures. Ms. Manfre completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work. She became a Lead Trainer for The Matter of Balance Program in 2018.

LaShawndala (LaShawn) Griffin has 13 years of experience with NKFM programming and seven years with A Matter of Balance (MOB). She is a T-trainer for MOB, trained in MOB Virtual, and is a leader of other EBPs. Ms. Griffin has a great commitment to falls prevention and has maintained communication with sites throughout the pandemic to ensure continued interest and success in MOB.

Ann Andrews, MPH is knowledgeable about business development with respect to CDSMP, Better Choices, Better Health, Enhance Fitness, and A Matter of Balance and has provided oversight to seven federal grants over the past 16 years. Ms. Andrews has extensive experience developing and sustaining relationships with physicians, hospitals, and insurers. She is a trained leader for both the Building Better Caregivers and Powerful Tools for Caregivers programs.
Linda Miller

Linda H. Miller is the Area Agency on Aging Director for the Centralina Area Agency on Aging (CAAA). Centralina is the largest Area Agency on Aging in North Carolina, serving the most adults older over the age of 60 in the state and overseeing more than 16,000 long-term care beds in facilities throughout the state. Centralina serves the nine counties surrounding Charlotte. Hired initially as a regional long-term care ombudsman, Ms. Miller has been with CAAA for 23 years. She graduated from Eckerd College in Florida and from the University of South Florida.With more than 30 years of experience in the aging field, she has worked with two Alzheimer’s Associations and has a strong background in education, evidence-based programs, community-based services, and volunteer training. |

Dr. Jennifer L. Tripken is an Associate Director, Center for Healthy Aging at the National Council on Aging. In this role, Jennifer supports the expansion and sustainability of evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programs in the community and online through collaboration with national, state, and community partners. Prior to joining NCOA, Jennifer worked for eight years as a university professor in Health Education and Promotion. Before that, Jennifer spent six years as a middle and high school Health Education teacher in New York.
Jennifer earned her Ed.D. in Health Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, her M.Ed. in Health Education at Boston University, and her B.S. in Athletic Training at Pennsylvania State University.
