This is the third session of a four-part orientation series designed to teach BECs how to carry out all necessary activities outlined under the grant.
In this session, participants will be able to:
- View BECs through using Wizehive to report data
- Highlight best practices for tracking and reporting data
- Clarify how to count benefits
Allyson Owens (Moderator)

Allyson comes to NCOA from Evolent Health Care, where she worked as a Customer Care Coordinator. While there she was responsible for handling customer service requests, communicating with physician’s offices to verify authorization information, developing relationships with provider groups, and making triage decisions not requiring clinical judgement. Allyson also worked as a Senior Care Coordinator and a Senior Customer Service Advisor for CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, a Care Coordinator for AmeriHealth Caritas, and a Case Specialist for INTotal Health. Allyson brings a wealth of practical knowledge about benefits and has experience implementing regulations/policies in the insurance industry, as well as experience working with Medicaid offices in DC and Virginia.
Darren Hotton (Moderator)

Darren Hotton has over 20 years of experience helping Medicare beneficiaries, family members, and caregivers navigate the Medicare and Medicaid landscape. He was the Director of Utah Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP), Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), and Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) for 18 years. Darren's mission is to empower, educate, and assist older adults to access all benefits, and age well on their own terms.
Jennifer Teague
Director, Health Coverage and Benefits

Jen Teague is the Director for Health Coverage and Benefits at NCOA. She has over 15 years of experience working on behalf of older adults and their families. Jen’s previous roles have included working with the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services, overseeing adult protective services and managing local non-profit organizations. She has significant experience working with community-based organization (CBO) committees, taskforces, and providing education, information and resources to older adults, key stakeholders, and elected officials. Jen states her passion is ensuring that older adults can access services and supports that allow them to age with dignity and choice. Jen has a Masters degree in Community Counseling and a Bachelors degree in Sociology both from Appalachian State University.
Andy Stamp
Senior Specialist, CBA (Center for Benefits Access) Projects and Data Management

Andy serves as the data specialist for CEW projects and programs, including its work with the national network of Benefit Enrollment Centers (BECs). Andy’s career has centered on using data to inform strategic and operational decision making for mission-driven organizations. Andy comes to NCOA from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where he worked for six years in roles focused on budget formulation, performance measurement and evaluation, data analysis, and project management. Prior to his time in government, his career included analytical roles with nonprofit organizations and experience as a journalist with a regional newspaper. Andy has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Public Health (MPH), a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Esteban Gonzalez
Director of the Benefits Outreach
Atlanta Community Food Bank
As, the Director of the Benefits Outreach, Esteban leads the program which screens for public assistance programs and provides application assistance to those who are eligible. Esteban also leads the Georgia Food Stamp Workgroup. He launched the Benefits Enrollment Center at the Food Bank in partnership with the National Council on Aging, he was part of Feeding America's SNAP Partnership Capacity Institute, served as a SNAP Capacity Advisor for Feeding America and is a past participant in the Leadership Institute with the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO).
